I was just a young kid when I first met Bill "Putt Putt". He became good friends with my folks, Steve & Jean Morgan via the CB Radio. I went to many tractor pulls and other automotive related functions with him and my dad. Bill would celebrate the 4th of July every year at our house and usually brought a large supply of noise makers that he purchased south of the border in Missouri. I remember one year when the bag of fireworks was in the front yard when a stray bottle rocket lit into the bag. Just as the bag began to erupt, the local PD, Mr. Robertson pulled into the driveway to see who was making all of the noise. As he exited his squad car, a bottle rocket parted his hair as Bill was very quickly scrambling to extinquish the bag with our garden hose. Another fond memory of Bill was at a CB Radio group gathering at Eagle Point Park. Bill "Putt Putt", drove his orange Dune Buggy. Reverse went out and he literally picked it by the front bumber and turned it around. I was amazed. When Bill lived in Cedar heights trailer court, he paid me very well to mow his yard, afterward he would invite me in and offer me a cold drink while we watched a NASCAR race or the Cubs. I was instrumental in turning me into a model car/truck collector and often helped me with some of the details on the big rigs. I will miss Bill, he is a great friend.
