William Halcomb's Obituary
William H. Halcomb, 85, of Clinton, IA died Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center with all of his children at his side. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Friday, November 13, 2009 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home with Pastor Ken Greeley officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday, November 12, 2009 at the Clinton Chapel. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons Scott, Fred, Derek, Ty, and David Halcomb, Paul Heath, and Corey Shockey. William was born to Daniel and Mamie (Moore) Halcomb on June 19, 1924 in Brodhead, KY. He married Minnie “Tudy” Rubsamen on March 19, 1944 in Rock Island, IL; she died on March 30, 2002. He had been employed with Allied Steel for 32 years until retiring in 1986. He was a United States WWII Army Air Corps Veteran. He loved carpentry, fishing, hunting, and was always fixing something. He was a member of the Clinton Church of Christ where he helped with the building of their present church, and years ago had also served as a trustee. Survivors include 3 sons and one daughter: Fred (Sue) Halcomb of Clinton, Chuck Halcomb of Goose Lake, Bill (Teresa) Halcomb of Clinton and Linda (Ed) Shockey of Clinton; 2 brothers: Herb Halcomb of Berea, KY and Gene (Sue) Halcomb of Brodhead, KY; 3 sisters: Evelyn Rowlett of Berea, KY, Vivian (Hully) Bishop of Brodhead, KY, and Catherine (LeRoy) Adams of Ohio; 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, one brother and one grandson. Memorials may be made to the Clinton Church of Christ.
