Virgil Showerman's Obituary
Virgil R. Showerman, 87, of Clinton, Iowa died Sunday, January 3, 2010 at Mercy Living Center North, Clinton. Services will be held Thursday, January 7, 2010 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be from 9am until the service hour Thursday at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will be at a later date at the National Cemetery, R.I.A.
Virgil was born January 28, 1922 in Kalamazoo, MI, the son of Raymond and Amber (Munn) Showerman. Virgil was a Kalamazoo Michigan High School graduate and graduate of Wayne State University. He was an Army Air Corps veteran, serving in WWII as a commander pilot of heavy bombers.
He married Betty Bushouse on March 7, 1949; she passed away March 3, 1980. He then married Maxine Carter Molid on July 10, 1993 in Dubuque, Iowa.
Virgil was employed by the Collis Company as plant manager for 23 years, retiring in 1987. He had previously been employed by Union Steel Company. Virgil also owned and operated R&R Ltd. In Fulton, Illinois.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, L. Maxine Showerman of Clinton; brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Judy Showerman of Kalamazoo, MI; brother-in-law and wife, Clifford and Darlene Carter of Onida, SD and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his first wife he was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Clinton.
