Thomas E. Hilgendorf, 79, of Camanche passed away, Thursday, March 25, 2021 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics – Iowa City, Iowa.
There will be no services or visitation. The Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family.
Thomas Eugene Hilgendorf was born on March 10, 1942 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Louis John and Florence Vivian (Lollich) Hilgendorf. He was a 1960 graduate of St. Mary’s High School. He married Janice Dann on September 13, 1980 in Reno, Nevada.
Tom was a professional baseball player playing in the Major Leagues for the Cardinals, Royals, Pirates, Phillies, and Indians. After retiring from baseball, he was self-employed as a carpenter.
Tom enjoyed time with his family, going to the casino and watching baseball and westerns on TV.
Tom is survived by his wife: Janice of Camanche; his children: Troy (Michelle) Hilgendorf of Camanche, Lorry Smith of Camanche, Shelly (Brian) Hagerman of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Craig (Lynne) Hilgendorf of Camanche, Mark (Lorri) Hilgendorf of Camanche, Tim (Robin) Hilgendorf of Wisconsin, and Chris Ivey; 21 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; and three brothers: James (Marlene) Hilgendorf of Clinton, Donald (Sharon) Hilgendorf of Clinton, and William (Suzanne) Hilgendof of Mt. Carroll, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his two brothers.
