Sonja L. Housenga's Obituary
Sonja L. Housenga, 81, of Clinton, passed away, Thursday, February 20, 2025 at the Alverno.
Funeral Services will be 6:00pm, Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Visitation will be from 4:00pm to the service time Tuesday. Private family burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery.
Sonja Lee Young was born on March 13, 1943 in Moline, Illinois, the daughter of Russell and Bernadine (Paup) Young. She was a 1961 graduate of DeWitt High School and attended the University of Wyoming. She married Robert Housenga on June 27, 2009; he recently passed away on July 18, 2024.
Sonja was director of community relations with the Clinton Community School District for 21 years retiring in 2008. She was also the associate editor with the Clinton Herald for 5 years.
Sonja enjoyed gardening, reading, taking pictures and spending time with her dogs. She was a very talented seamstress making all of her professional clothes and her children’s school clothes. This passion turned into a business, crafting primitive dolls and decorations for all the holidays.
Sonja is survived by her daughter: Tanya (Eric) VanLancker of Clinton; her son: Wesley (Kristina) Golden of Clinton and four grandchildren: Caitlyn, Jackson, Prushia, and Leone. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Memorials can be made to the Clinton Humane Society.
