Russell Mensinger's Obituary
Russell C. Mensinger, 92, of Camanche, died Sunday, March 2, 2008 at Bluff Terrace Nursing Home, Clinton.
Memorial Services for Grace and Russell Mensinger will be 10:30am, Saturday, March 8, 2008, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Camanche with Rev. Linda Schultz officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Russell Carl Mensinger was born on May 1, 1915 in Camanche, Iowa, the son of Carl and Florence (Wiebers) Mensinger. He married Grace Nielson on June 4, 1938 in Clinton, Iowa; she died January 8, 2005.
He was a 1933 graduate of Clinton High School.
Russell was a commercial fisherman owning and operating the Mensinger Fish Market from 1950-1978. He was also employed with Climax.
He was a charter member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Camanche, a member of the Camanche Masonic Lodge, #60, Clinton Scottish Rite Bodies, Clinton Shrine Club, a Barber Shopper for over 50 years, a member of the Camanche Kiwanis, the Rose Hill Cemetery Association, an avid bowler and past president of the Camanche Bowling Association, Izaak Walton League, the Camanche Planning and Zoning Commission, served on the board of directors at Hawkeye Bank in Camanche, and also served on the Camanche School Board.
Russell is survived by two sons: Gary (Joanne) Mensinger of Bellevue, Iowa, and Jerry (Alice) Mensinger of Camanche, Iowa; 6 grandchildren: Kelley Brown of Grimes, IA; Jeffrey (Liesl) Mensinger of Camanche, Iowa; Jeri (Cory) Faykus of Georgetown, TX; Theresa Green of Austin, TX; Jerry (Chris) Mensinger, Jr., of Omaha, NE; Christina (Larry) LeBlanc of Clute, TX ; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Mildred Vogel of Camanche, Iowa; Bernice (Bob) Bolte of Camanche; one brother: Henry (Helen) Mensinger of Camanche; several nieces and nephews and a good friend: Adeline Speaker of Clinton.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife
Memorials can be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Camanche.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Bluff Terrace Nursing Facility for the care and friendship they gave both Grace and Russ during their stay there. They also wish to thank Dr. Dale Wulf and Dr. Albaghdadi for their care.
