Richard "Dick" DeHaven's Obituary
Richard “Dick” A. DeHaven, 77, of Clinton, passed away, Saturday, April 25, 2020 at the Alverno.
Memorial Services will be 3:00pm Friday, May 1, 2020, at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. A public celebration of life will be held in the future at Rastrelli’s. Serving as pallbearers will be Chad Pendley, Dailey Johnson, Alex Shum, Aaron Shum, Jeff Pendley, Richard Green, Jr, James McCright, and Richard Markwardt. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Bill Jacobsen, Richard Droste, Tom Kelly, Dave Conroy, Dave Carmody, Norm Holle, and Moe Asaadi.
Richard Arthur DeHaven was born on May 31, 1942 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Ruth (Carlson) DeHaven. He attended St. Mary’s for many years and graduated from Clinton High School in 1961. He married Barbara Woods on June 7, 1996 in Clinton.
Dick was in sales most of his life. He worked at The Clinton Herald, Pauls, and Hawkeye Beverage. Later Dick owned and operated Coaches Sports Bar and Mr. Dude’s Distributing.
Dick was an avid Iowa Hawkeye, Chicago Bears, and Chicago Cubs fan. He also enjoyed following Clinton High School athletics. He enjoyed watching the Hawks win the Big Ten Conference Football Championship, and the Cubs win the World Series in 2016. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his family and friends. He never met a stranger, and loved talking to everyone he met. Most of all he enjoyed being a grandpa and foster dad.
Dick is survived by his wife: Barb of Clinton; his children: Renee (Jeff) Pendley of Clinton, Yvette DeHaven of Colorado, Nicole (James) McCright of Clinton; Kameron Cargill-DeHaven who he was able to adopt on April 23, 2020; a son-in-law: Richard Green of Arizona, and a daughter-in-law: Cheryl Johnson of Marion, Iowa. Dick was a grandfather to: Ashley Whalen, Courtney Koch, Chandler Pendley, Dailey Johnson, Alex Shum, Aaron Shum, Chelsea Green, Tiffany Nicole (Nikki) Green, Madison Ready, Justine Pendley, and Jordan Eggers, 6 great-grandchildren; and his siblings: Steve (Sue) DeHaven of Davenport, Linda (Marvin) Hill of DeKalb, Illinois, Carol Macke of Clinton, Shelly (Chuck) McCluskey of Clinton, and Kevin DeHaven of Clinton; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son: Hugh Johnson, his daughter: Debbie DeHaven-Green, and his brother: Marty DeHaven.
