Rae I. McConnell's Obituary
Rae Irene McConnell, 88, of Clinton, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at Addington Place of Clinton, Iowa. Services will be 11:00AM Friday, August 4, 2023 at Calvary Baptist Church, Clinton. Visitation will be held from 4:00PM to 6:00PM Thursday, August 3, 2023 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Clinton. Rae I. Jones was born March 15, 1935, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond H. and Hallabell (Huddleston) Jones. She was a 1953 graduate of Ottumwa High School. Rae married Bion R. McConnell October 14, 1953, in Ottumwa, Iowa; Bion passed away June 13, 2015.
Rae was employed by the Clinton Community School District for 30 years as the Assistant to the Director of Human Resources. She retired in 1995.
Rae was a founding member of Calvary Baptist Church in Clinton. She enjoyed walking, sports, traveling and enjoyed watching her kids and grandkids play sports. She was a people person, and her church and family were most important to her.
She is survived by her three sons: Russell “Russ” (Isabel) McConnell of Alexandria, Virginia; Patrick “Pat”(Marilee) McConnell of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and Bradley “Brad” (Ann) McConnell of Geneseo, Illinois; 10 grandchildren: Serena Williams, Tom McConnell, Maggie (John) Pickett, Steven McConnell, Natalie McConnell, Melissa (Tyler) Kremer, Michelle (Mark) Snodgrass, Francesca McConnell, Jacob McConnell, and Joseph McConnell, five great-grandchildren: Jamie Rae Pickett, Marlowe Leroy Pickett, Matilda Jean Pickett, Makayla Ann Snodgrass and Michael Eric Snodgrass; sister, Vicki Proctor of Ottumwa, IA; son-in-law, Dale Williams of Clinton, Iowa and her sister-in-law Mary Bruntmyer of Iowa City, Iowa.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Shelley Williams, her brother Joseph Jones, and her parents.
Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church or Mercy Hospice in Clinton, Iowa.
