Paul Elliott Hammann was born November 1, 1930 in Martinsburg, West Virginia, the son of Paul and Amelia (Elliott) Hammann. His mother passed away not long after his birth and he was raised by Harry and Carmen (Calvert) Hammann. He was a 1948 graduate of Martinsburg High School and earned his bachelor's degree in Engineering from West Virginia University in 1952. He joined the United States Army and served from 1953 to 1955. Paul married Lorene Espe on August 11, 1956 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin; she preceded him in death on December 23, 2014.
Paul worked for Trane Company in LaCrosse when he met Lorene. He then worked for American Air Filter (AAF) in Moline for 24 years and retired from McQuay International in Minneapolis in 1996. He and Lorene moved to Clinton after his retirement where they enjoyed travel to visit family and friends, especially to Florida and Louisiana and many trips to Minnesota and Wisconsin. He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church. Paul was devoted to his family and friends and deeply loved each one. He was kind and witty, and the epitome of a self-disciplined, self-sacrificing man. More than anything, he was a Christian and lived out his life to honor and glorify God in living a life of service to Him.
He is survived by his three daughters: Susan (Kevin) Dunne of Luling, Louisiana, Linda (Mike) Gordon of Goose Lake, Iowa and Joann Hammann of Hudson, Florida; six grandchildren: Wayne (Jenny) Gordon of DeWitt, Iowa, Willie (Sara) Dunne of Friendswood, Texas, Sarah Bergeron of Luling, Louisiana, Anna (Taylor) Swanson of Clinton, Marie (John) Sherman of Plymouth, Wisconsin and Paul (Teddy) Gordon of Clinton; 21 great grandchildren: Addie, Audrina, Brenner, Kinzie, Aubrie, Callen, Beckett, John Wayne, Lucas, Arabella, Liam, Laikynn, Sophia, Evelyn, Briar, Colson, Grayson, Nicolas, Eloise, Titus and Abel; sister Harriett Eyler of Martinsburg, West Virginia; sisters-in-law: Ann Hammann of Martinsburg, West Virginia and Mary Ann Hammann of Charlottesville, Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Conrad and Edward Hammann and sister and brother-in-law Mary Jo and Wilson Orr, brother-in-law Bruce Eyler, brother-in-law and sisters- in-law Norman and Mary Espe and June Espe, and one grandson-in-law: Caleb Bergeron.
