Merlin Kinkaid's Obituary
Merlin E. Kinkaid, 73, of Clinton, passed away, Monday, August 20, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. The family will greet friends Friday, August 24, 2012 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory. Following the visitation Merlin will be cremated. A Celebration of his life will be held at Gil’s on Saturday, August 25, 2012 from 11:00am-2:00pm. Merlin Elroy Kinkaid was born on October 31, 1938 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Elsworth and Alberta (Johnson) Kinkaid. He married Mary Jo Robinson on June 7, 1959 in Clinton. He was a 1957 graduate of Clinton High School. He served in the United States Air Force from 1958-1962. Merlin worked at Schneider’s Produce and DuPont prior to being a police officer for the Clinton Police Department for 27 years. He also owned and operated Clinton Parking Lot & Sweeping for many years. Merlin was an avid bowler and model train bluff. He was a member and past president of the Clinton Men’s Bowling Association. He also coached junior bowling for over 25 years. Merlin is survived by his wife: Mary Jo of Clinton; two daughters: Cathy (Donald) Hannigan of Pompano Beach, Florida, and Christine (Eric) Thiele of Peyton, Colorado; two grandchildren Bobbie (Lance) Duncan, and Conor Kinkaid Thiele; and one great-granddaughter: Emma Duncan; his beloved cats: Tigger and Lucky; and nieces and nephews: Mike Kinkaid, Mark Kinkaid, Dennis Kinkaid, Terry Kinkaid, Paul Schneider, Mary Deedon, Sally Hoftiezer, Susan F. Albers, Kathleen Peters, Deborah Sabotta, H.J. Brazil, and Stephanie Brazil. Merlin was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Glen & Buddy Kinkaid, and three sisters: Lois Luckritz, Ruth Reynolds, and Nelda Schneider. Memorials can be made to Mercy Hospice or JDRF.
