I was fortunate enough to work with Merlin on the Clinton Police Dept. from 1970-1977. We shared a lot of fun "squad car time " during those years and I always enjoyed his sense of humor. I especially remember those Monday night shift parties that always started after the end of shift @ 11:00 P.M. We rotated homes during these monthly parties and often left at sun up ! Those were FUN times but mostly I'll remember Merlin as a " gentle giant ! " If the situation dictated it, Merlin was always the toughest cop on the scene and you wanted him by your side when the situation turned ugly.RIP
My sincere sympathy to the Kindaid family. I worked at the Law Center and remember Merlin with a smile. He was quite a kidder -- I never knew if he was teasing or serious and of course he liked it that way.
May you feel God's strength at this time as He comforts you and gives you peace.
Merlin was a good cop. He was honest, fearless, and understanding. The last time we spoke he was in the hospital and we reminisced about the time we were checking a burglarized building, illuminating the inside with flashlights. We separated and both entered a room through opposing doors. We froze there, flashlights in each others faces, guns pointed at each other. Merlin said, "Dave?" and I said, "Yeah, Merlin?". We put our guns away, took a breath and started laughing!! Thank heaven there were no crooks in there, they would have thought we were crazy!! There were many shared experiences, but none that brought laughter to us like that one. Wishes and prayers to Mary Jo and family during this difficult time. Merlin's suffering is at an end and he is with the Lord.
Sending prayers to the Kinkaid family. I will never forget the countless days at the bowling center with him around.
