Mary Green's Obituary
Mary "Lucy" Green, 95, of Camanche died Friday February 19,2010 at Mercy Medical Center. Memorial service will be at 2 pm Saturday, March 13, 2010 at the Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation with family will be from 1 pm until the service hour Saturday at the funeral home. Mary Lucile Smith was born March 8, 1914 in Bison, South Dakota, the daugher of Downing Ford and Florence Mae (Kilmer) Smith. She married Don Green on October 11, 1941 in Kahoka, Missouri;he died on February 25, 2001.
She was a 1930 (age 16) graduate of Wapello High School and graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College at the age of 19. She received her Masters Degree in Science/Mathematics from the University of Iowa.
She taught Math at Clinton Community College for 12 years. She had previously taught in Corpus Christi, Texas, and Eldon, Winfield and Stanhope, Iowa. She and Don both taught in Stanhope for 12 years and every year she and her husband, Don, took the senior high school class on a summer class trip. They visited Mammoth Caves, Yellowstone and Colorado among other places. Those students never forgot Lucile and Don and paid them frequent visits in Camanche throughout the years.
Lucy enjoyed travel and had visited all 50 states, all of Canada, Europe, Russia, Mexico and China. She was a member of Mensa, Delta Kappa Gamma, Red Hat Society and Clinton's Women's Club. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Newmarch of Camanche, one grandson , Donald Newmarch of West Bend, WI and one sister, Jeanette Regione of Arlington Heights, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and 2 brothers.
