Marlys Paul's Obituary
Marlys Mae Paul, 89, of Clinton, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at MercyOne in Clinton, Iowa.
Marlys Mae Paul was born on July, 20 1934 near Hospers, Iowa to Theodore and Arlene Idso. Marlys lived as a child on a farm near Archer, Iowa and graduated from Archer Schools in 1952. After receiving her teaching certificate from Morningside College, she taught elementary school in Spencer and Newton, Iowa. In 1960, Marlys married Robert M. Paul. He preceded her in death in December 1995.
After several years spent in Newton, she moved to the Clinton, Iowa area where she continued to enjoy working with children. She was Director for 8 years of Clinton Friendship Plus and a Title I teacher in Preston, Iowa. Many years were spent substituting in the area schools.
Marlys was a devoted member of the First Methodist Church, where she served on many committees and sang in the choir for many years. She was a member of Sons of Norway and the YWCA in Clinton. She enjoyed playing cards, games, traveling, reading, visiting and keeping in touch with her friends. Her greatest love was serving the Lord and spending time with family.
Marlys is survived by her two daughters Michele (Patrick) Cullen of Clinton, Iowa and Jennifer (Martin) Vermeer of Maxwell, Iowa. Her four grandchildren Robert (Anna) Cullen, Derek (Abby) Vermeer, Brianna (Jonathan) Beltman, and Jenna Cullen.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.
Visitation services will begin at 9:00am at the First Methodist Church - Clinton on Saturday, April 13, 2024 with memorial services to follow at 11:00am. Please join us for a celebration luncheon following the service. Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes is assisting the family.
Memorials may be made to the First Methodist Church or YWCA of Clinton, Iowa.
