Kenneth Kroemer's Obituary
Ken Kroemer, 71, of Clinton, died Thursday, May 31, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center, North Campus, Clinton. Funeral Services will be 10:30am, Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the Massilon Cemetery in rural Cedar County. Serving as pallbearers will be Tom Kelly, Doug Nelson, Bill Espey, Bob Wede, Richard Farwell, and Richard Rausenberger. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00-8:00pm at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory. Kenneth Paul Kroemer was born on January 19, 1941 near Big Rock, Iowa, the son of Norman and Elfrieda (Horstmann) Kroemer. He was a 1958 graduate of Lowden High School where he excelled at baseball and basketball. He then attended UNI in Cedar Falls graduating in 1962. Having never played football in high school he was asked by the football coach to play at UNI. He was a three year letter winner and played on the 1961 team that had an undefeated record. He married Sherril Paulsen on August 11, 1963 in Lowden, Iowa. After graduating from college he became a teacher and head football coach at Iowa Valley High School in Marengo, Iowa. In 1966 he moved to Clinton where he taught and coached at Clinton High School until 1971. From 1971 to 1980 he worked at KCLN starting in sales and moving to general manager. In 1980 he went to work with Associated Agencies until starting Ken Kroemer Insurance in 1984. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder, he served on the Clinton Riverboat Days committee for 24 years and was the commodore in 1971. He was also very active with the Clinton High School Athletic Boosters and the recent Restoring Royalty campaign. In 2010 he received in the Iowa High School Football Coaches Association Distinguished Service Award. He was also a member of the UNI Alumni Association and Clinton Rotary Club. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing, following UNI football and Iowa Wrestling, and attending the NCAA Wrestling National Tournament every year. He is survived by his wife: Sherril of Clinton; one son: Michael (D’Anne) Kroemer of Clinton; one daughter: Kristen (Greg) Jacobs of Lakewood, Colorado; his mother: Elfrieda Kroemer of Wheatland, his brother: Leon (Karen) Kroemer of Cedar Rapids, two aunts: Erna Brendes of Cedar Rapids, and Veneta Kroemer of Wheatland; one niece and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his father. Memorials in lieu of flowers can be made to Restoring Royalty or the First Presbyterian Church.
