I have known joe since I was a teenager when he was our bugle instructor in the Clinton Nee Hi's. he truly loved music and the art of teaching youth how to play and perform. I have fond memories of the years I marched, the trips and performances we did thanks to Joe's love and dedication to the world of Drum Corp. rest in peace joe
My heart felt sympathy goes out to the Family of Joe Wenzl in your time of pain and sorrow. I knew Joe from the early 70â??s as a member of the Nee-Hi's Drum and Bugle Corps, he was my bugle instructor. He was the kind of man that pushed to get results and expected dedication that is exactly what he got. Picture in your mind this man controlling a group of teenage girls, now that was brave. I donâ??t think that I would have wanted that challenge. My memories of Joe are wonderful as are probably yours, I feel that my time in Drum Corps with Joe as our instructor helped to mold me to who I am today. Surely Joe has joined in with the Heavenly trumpeters to make a joyful noise.
So sorry to hear about Joe passing. He was wonderful instuctor for the Nee-Hi's. He enjoy Drum and Bugle corps. I enjoy learning from him. And talking to him when I saw him about town.May he rest in peace.
I know that we haven't stayed in touch over the years since Diane passed away. I know that her passing broke Joe's heart. Joe was a good man and a fine Brother-In-Law.
I remember when we would drive to Minnesota to visit. Joe would show me where to buy strong beer,which wasn't sold in Iowa at the time. I would stock up to some take home. He always made sure that his fridge was stocked with beer so I felt right at home.
We have a lot of good memories that will always be in our hearts.

As my two sons were growing up, I told them again and again, "You are becoming what you are going to be. If you don't practice now, then you won't be what you are supposed to be when you get there". Our adolescent committments to each other forged our futures and the choices we made became the courses we took. I am thankful to Joe, and to all of my fellow corps members, for the blessing of your camaraderie. What a drum corps legacy he has left!
Even though we never really got to know you, I'm sure everyone will miss your presence. Your children are a daily reminder of the great person you were and I am sure a day won't go by that you won't be missed. Our prayers are with the family.
