Joseph Oran Eicher, 97's Obituary
Joseph O. Eicher, 97, of Camanche, Iowa, passed away Saturday , December 29, 2018 at his daughter’s home in Camanche. Services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be from 10AM until the service hour at the funeral home. Burial will be at Linwood Cemetery, Dubuque, Iowa. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting snellzornig.com.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph & Emma (Schultz) Eicher, his first wife, Beverly (Erickson) Eicher, sister-in-law Patricia Eicher, brother Carl Eicher, sister-in-law Juanita Eicher, sister Alice (Eicher) Campbell, brother-in-law Leonard Campbell, brother-in-law George Ross, and son-in-law Rick Wiedner.
Joe was born in Council Bluffs, IA; He was in the military service
1942-45 as a nurse in Bethel Alaska. In 1945 he married Beverly Erickson, and both worked at Schick General Military Hospital in Clinton IA. Joe also worked as an accountant & real estate agent with his father, and later, self-employed under Eicher Realty in Dubuque, Iowa.
The Truth of God was always upheld by Joe and Beverly. Their faithfulness in continuing to serve the Lord moved them to welcome the servants and children of God to enjoy fellowship together in their home for years and years; and this would have its affect on the generations that would follow. Joe was an inspiring example of living a faithful life; relentless in his prayers, firm in his integrity, and content.
Joe was married to Betty Jo Richart in 2004 and resided in Hillsboro, OR; Due to health concerns, he returned to Iowa in December, 2017 where he resided with his daughter, Denice, in Camanche. Denice became his loving caregiver until the day of his death.
He is survived by his second wife, Betty Jo; two daughters: Zona (Richard) Arvig and Denice Wiedner; step-sons Gary & Robert Gest; grandchildren: Nicole (Dan) Loyek; Aaron (Kari) Arvig; Adam (Mary) Arvig; Robyn (Travis) Kapparos and Rachel (Bryan) McClimon; great-grandchildren: Preston, Savannah and Reece Loyek; Margaret, Levi, and Chase Arvig; Vanessa Peterson and Cortney Keeler; Camryn and Connor Kapparos; Brennan McClimon, Aden and Piper McClimon; Brother Dan (Mildred) Eicher; Sister Joyce Ross; many loving nieces & nephews.
Our sincere, heartfelt “thank you” to the Veterans Administration and Hospice for their loving and gentle care shown to Joe.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a favorite charity.
