I remember when I was a child having a growth spurt and he told my parents he liked me but he wouldn't want to feed me. That was his dry sense of humor. Uncle Dick was known by everyone who knew him as "one heck of a nice guy." ❣️

My kids always referred to Dick as "Mr. Schafer." When my oldest daughter was in middle school he offered to tutor her in Spanish and she loved it. He was just one of the kindest, most interesting and talkative people I've ever met.
One of his endearing qualities was that he counted everything. If he went for a walk he picked up cans and when he worked in his yard he picked up walnuts. He could always tell you exactly how many things he picked up!
Rest in peace, Mr. Schafer.

Martha,
So sorry for your loss. We remember you and Dick as one of the first "bridge" couples to make us feel welcome in Clinton. You and your family are in our thoughts & prayers.

Uncle Dick was the best Uncle a person could have. He was soft spoken and always loving to me. I will miss him very much. Sue
