John A Werner Jr.'s Obituary
John A. Werner, Jr., 77, of Clinton passed away on Monday, July 22, 2013 at Mercy Living Center South, Clinton. Per John’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no visitation or service. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory assisted the family with arrangements.
John was born December 26, 1935 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of John A. and Viola (Zirbes) Werner.
John was a 1954 Clinton High School graduate; he received his BA from Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa in 1958 and his MA from Marycrest College in Davenport in 1975.
John had been employed with various Iowa and Illinois High Schools from 1958 to 1966; at Central High School in Chicago, Illinois from 1966 to 1982 at St. Willibrord Catholic High School in Chicago from 1982 – 1988, Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District, Norwalk California from 1988 to 1991, Long Beach Unified Schools, Long Beach California from 1992 to 1993, Bret Harte Middle School, Los Angeles from 1993 to 2000 and Orange Avenue School, Paramount California from 2000 to 2003.
John was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clinton, was a supporter of the Salvation Army, Clinton and he was the Resident Director of the Dubuque Civic Theatre in the 70’s.
Survivors include his son, Robert Werner McGinnis of Minneapolis, MN; daughter, Elizabeth Werner McGinnis of Schaumberg, IL; brother, Donald (Kay) Werner of Walcott, IA; sister, LaDonna (David) Hartmann of Annandale, VA; sister-in-law, Betty Vogel; several nieces and nephews and special friend Tyson Ridenour of Bell Flower, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Raymond Vogel and Kenneth Vogel and nephews Steve Werner and Gary Vogel.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, Clinton.
