John Shafar's Obituary
John W. Shafar, 64, of Clinton, died Sunday, March 9, 2008, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa.
Funeral Services will be 10:30am, Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Linda Keeter-Schultz officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Terry Kammerer, Jerry Casebeer, Bobby Graham, Brandon Hicks, Dave Frett, and Byron Kasterke. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00-8:00pm at the Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory.
John Wayne Shafar was born on February 25, 1944 in Callender, Iowa, the son of Bob and Elnora (Barnes) Shafar.
He was a graduate of Fort Dodge High School and also attended Scott Community College.
He was formerly employed with Chemplex working there since 1975. He was very active with the Gateway Area Chapter of the Red Cross. Also served as a EMT with the Camanche Volunteer Fire Department from 1975-1989.
He was proud of his 24 years of sobriety with AA. He enjoyed traveling around the country especially to Florida to visit his family. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle.
He is survived by three daughters: Tracy Shafar of Camanche; Jackie (Terry) Kammerer of Camanche, and Sally (Jerry) Casebeer of Sabula; two sons: Gary (Susan) Shafar of Camanche and Joseph Shafar of Camanche; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two brothers: Kenneth (Joan) Shafar of Tavaras, Florida, and Bill (Joan) Shafar of West Union, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother.
The family requests that memorials be made to the family.
