Our hearts go out to the family of John Shafar. He will be missed.
I met John 12 years, or so, ago. When I first met this gentle soul, I didn't know what to think. Here was this big man with tatttoos and a leather vest. He scared me at first, but then I realized he was a big ole teddy bear! John taught me so much. The past two years have been a bit topsy turvy for both John and myself, but we became a lot closer. We talked about everything!
He would always ask me "What can I do to make your day better?". John made my day better just by being here, by being my friend. I will miss his smile, his laugh, his naughty jokes, but mostly I'll just miss John. He will always be in my heart.
God rest Big J!
I will saddly miss John, but he has given me so many awesome memories!
As we worked Red Cross together in New Orleans, New York and many local disasters, John taught me all I know about helping others, and having fun.
From touring the Florida Keys, to the Colorado mountain tops, I have been blessed to be John's motorcycle companion for the past 15 years. He has taught me compassion, acceptance of others, love of adventure, and the importance of friends. He was a wonderful friend.
