Joanne Bigwood's Obituary
Joanne Bigwood, 81, of Clinton, died, Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Mercy Living Center - South, Clinton. Services for Joanne will be 10:30am, Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Jennifer Henry officiating. There will be no visitation and burial will be private. Serving as pallbearers will be Jason, Justin, and Jacob Dornbush, Gary Cox, Donald Zerrien, and Michael Leahy. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Joanne was born on October 31, 1930, the daughter of Alvin and Marie Melchert. She was employed at Burpee Seed Company for many years. She was also employed by U.S. Bank for several years and served as the Secretary at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Camanche for nine years. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed bowling in several leagues over the years. She also enjoyed belonging to a card club and being a member of Fun Friends at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Camanche. She was very proud of the fact that her grandfather, Felix Melchert, was the organist and choir director at Zion Lutheran Church for 50 years and also Sunday School teacher for 33 years. Joanne is survived by her husband, Ray; one sister: Phyllis (Charles) Hoffman of Muscatine; one brother: Ronald, of Clinton, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church Building Fund – 439 3rd Avenue South, Clinton.
