Jerry Huisinga's Obituary
Jerry Mark Huisinga, 71, of Clinton, died Saturday, August 30, 2008 at his home, of pancreatic cancer. Funeral Services will be 10:30 am, Monday, September 8, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church with Pastors Bobb Barrick and Dennis Glew officiating. Burial will be in the Springdale Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Bob Hjelmaas, Jim Braudt, Ron Larson, Larry Beebe, Dennis Keesey, Bob Conzett, and Bob Cassidy. Visitation will be Sunday, September 7, 2008, from 2:00-6:00 pm at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory with a Rose Croix service concluding the visitation at 6:00 pm. Jerry M. Huisinga was born on December 1, 1936, in Freeport, IL, the son of Martin and Helen (Perry) Huisinga. He married Beverly A. Thompson on November 26, 1960, in Freeport. She preceded him in death on December 13, 2005. Jerry graduated from Freeport High School in 1954. He attended the University of Illinois for one year and graduated from North Central College in Naperville in 1959, majoring in Biology and lettering in tennis and basketball. Jerry was employed in production and human resources at Nielsen Clearing House for 25 years, and was then the personnel manager for both Hawkeye Chemical and Metform, retiring in 1999. He also enjoyed many years officiating high school sports. Jerry was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Clinton, a 50-year member of Western Star Lodge #100, Clinton Scottish Rite Bodies, Clinton High Twelve Club, Clinton Country Club, and past member of DeMolay, YMCA Board, United Way Board, and served on the Clinton Baseball Club, Inc. Board of Directors for 14 years. Jerry enjoyed playing golf, supporting his grandchildren in their many activities, taking care of his backyard birds, fishing, spending time at the lake, and sharing stories with his many friends. In his younger days, he enjoyed playing and teaching tennis, and traveling with the YMCA men’s volleyball team. Jerry is survived by two daughters and six grandchildren: Barb (Dee) Willoughby of Clinton, Iowa, and their children: Callie, Collin, Nolan, and Carrie; and Connie (Bob) Barrett of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, and their children: Ryan and Kirsten; one brother: Dr. James (Joan) Huisinga, DDS of St. Louis, Missouri, one brother-in-law Bruce (Charol) Thompson, and two nephews and three nieces. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents. The family requests that memorials be made to First United Methodist Church, Unity Christian Athletic Boosters, or City of Clinton Recreation-River City Tennis
