James L. Pearson's Obituary
James L. Pearson, 90, of Camanche, passed away Monday, October 10, 2022, at the Alverno – Clinton.
A Funeral Mass will be 11:00am, Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at the Catholic Church of the Visitation. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Clinton AMVETS Post #28. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandchildren. James Leslie Pearson was born on September 3, 1932, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Winifred (Mulholland) Pearson. He attended Clinton High School, and later graduated from Illinois State University after serving in the United States Navy from 1951 until he was honorably discharged in 1954. He would later obtain a master's degree from Truman University and a specialist degree from Western Illinois. He married Marilyn Hart on August 2, 1952, in Hertford, North Carolina; she died March 11, 2022. Their love story was a special one, they would have been married 70 years this past August.
Jim started teaching and coaching at Camanche in 1962. He would later become the principal of Camanche High School in 1970 serving until his retirement in 1994. When asked if he would leave Camanche after his retirement, he said, “Why would I?...this town has helped our family through the best and worst of times.” He loved his community and took great pride in helping all of his students.
Jim was a member of the Church of the Visitation, he enjoyed reminiscing about his coaching days, family get-togethers, and watching his grandchildren in their many activities.
Jim is survived by his son: Brent (Lisa) Pearson of Davenport, his daughter: Stacey (Robert) Reppert of Camanche; six grandchildren: Taylor Pearson, Bryan (Kelsey) Pearson, Zachary (Kristen Syverud) Pearson, Kathryn Pearson, Callie (Colten) Hilgendorf, and Lucas Reppert; 5 great-grandchildren: Jackson and Brynne Hilgendorf, Rory, Jonah, and Finley Pearson; his sister: Michelle Pearson of Clinton; and his brothers: Patrick (Cheryl) Pearson of Clinton, and Richard Pearson of Clinton; and his sister-in-law: Nancy (Bob) Hunt of Ft. Collins, Colorado.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his mother, son: Brian, daughter: Susan; brother: Robert; and sisters: Mary Catherine and Patricia.
