Iva DeHaven's Obituary
Iva F. DeHaven, 95, of Clinton, died Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at her home. Visitation will be Saturday March 10,2012 from 10:00am to noon at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Funeral Services will begin at noon. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Bob Nolan, Ron Carber, Cody Johnson, John Hintermiester, Mike Meyers, and Don Hansen. Serving as an honorary pallbearer will be Morland Clark. Iva Fern Nolan was born on November 14, 1916 in Norfolk, Nebraska, the daughter of Clyde and Nora (Hare) Nolan. She was a 1936 graduate of Clinton High School. She married Ronald Schuey in 1939 in Clinton; they divorced in 1958. She later married Lyman DeHaven on September 9, 1971; he died March 17, 1986. Later she married Les Wiker who died in 1997. She worked for many years at F.W. Woolworth’s in Clinton. She then worked for the Clinton County Department of Social Services as Income Administrator retiring on March 2, 1978. She was a good athlete in high school and was still playing slow pitch softball at the age of 61, showing up her daughter Dixie and younger teammates in the process. She was a sports fan her entire life and loved the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, Dallas Cowboys, and San Antonio Spurs. She was dedicated to her religion and read her Bible daily. She was a longtime member of the Church of God and later in life the First Baptist Church in Clinton. She enjoyed traveling, especially proud of being able to tour Europe in 1969 with son Ron and daughter-in-law: Dorie Schuey. She loved to visit family and church friends, including long time friend Crystal Tompkins. She was a devoted Republican and had many spirited debates with Democratic son Steve. She enjoyed tending to her beautiful flower beds. She was also recognized by the American Red Cross in 1970 for her outstanding assistance to the Hurricane Celia Disaster Relief Operation. She is survived by son: Steve (Robbie) Schuey of Clinton; daughter: Dixie Maynard of Reeds Springs, Missouri; daughter-in-law: Dorie (Morland) Clark of Fulton, Illinois; step-daughter: Joyce (Rudy) Barajas of Sterling; granddaughters: Debbie Johnson, Tracy Quick, and Jeannie Timm, step-granddaughter: Cindy Hintermeister; 16 great grandchildren; nephews: Bob Nolan, Dick Beelandorf and niece Carol Jean Scharff. In addition to her husband’s; she was preceded in death by her parents; son Ronald R. Schuey, three brothers: Kenneth, Ralph and Richard Nolan, and two sisters: Maudie and Eulah. Memorials can be made to Mercy Hospice.
