Gary Johnson's Obituary
Gary A. Johnson, 64, of Clinton died Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Funeral services will be 10:30am Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Chancy Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00pm Friday, October 29, 2010 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bob Bielema, Kyle Bielema, Derek Pillers, Christopher Swanson, Dana Espe, and Joe Jensen. Gary Allan Johnson was born on January 17, 1946 in Clinton, the son of Squire and Ruby (Kamphius) Johnson. He was a 1964 graduate of Clinton High School. He married Dorothy Swanson on July 17, 1971 at Chancy Lutheran Church. Gary was a United States Navy veteran. He was employed as a welder in the car shops with Chicago Northwest Railroad. He later worked for the Long Beach Unified School District until his retirement in 2009. He was a member of Chancy Lutheran Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed drawing and feeding the many birds and outdoor animals. He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Clinton; one daughter: Tami (David) Turner of Davenport, IA; one son: Todd (Paula) Johnson of Huntington Beach, CA; 3 grandchildren: Bre and Jake Turner and Jordan Brown; his mother: Ruby Johnson of Clinton; two sisters: Carol (Bruce) Rieck of Sabula, IA and Bonnie (Jon) Pillers of Clinton; one brother: Bert (Connie) Johnson of Phoenix, AZ, and special friends: Jim (Pat) Turner of Clinton and Ray (Linda) Peck of Clinton. He was preceded in death by his father and one sister, Gail Johnson. Memorials may be made to the Family.
