Roommate was Edward F Wdowik
I was roommate with Gary GH at Western illinois university 12th floor. I was originally assigned to the 6th floor but GH convinced me to room with him after asking to sit at my table in the cafeteria (I was by myself)at Tanner hall.GHwas a genius at math even though he was a history major. He could have gone pro at any sport. Baseball football basketball you name it. He excelled. I have so many stories. I miss him but good to know he was a success in life and blessed with family
Hope to see you again.
I was roommates with Gary at WIU. We called him GH. I first met GH in the cafeteria at Tanner hall . As I was eating by myself (I didn't know anyone) he asked if hecould sit with me. Originally assigned to the 6th floor I moved to GHs 12th floor. And we roomed together. He was a genius in math even though he majored in history. He was a pro in football as quarterback baseball basketball any sport. He complained in a humorous way about his nubby thumbs. Glad to know he was a success in life with rich family. I think of him from time to time like now. We'd go to happy hour for a gin and tonic Very fortunate to have known GH friend forever Ed Wdowik (floater)
Liz,
I am so sorry to hear about Gary's passing. Stay strong my friend! Thinking of you in this darkened time.
Take Care,
Cathy
My name is Rick Reeves. I grew up in Morrison at the same time as Gary. I remember watching him hit a home run for Morrison's American Legion baseball team, "Paul's Prestos". I also remember watching him play basketball for the Morrison Mustangs when I was a freshman. Gary was an excellent athlete and good team mate. I always thought he could have been a pro baseball player. He inspired my love of sport. May God Bless the memory of this Morrison Mustang always.
To Liz and Gary's family (and his sister Betty with whom I was friends with when we all worked at Rock-Tenn) you have my sincere and deepest sympathy!
All that has been written above is so true!!! Gary was the most friendly, polite, helpful person to work with. He knew when to be serious and when to be funny - and boy when he was funny, he was hilarious!!! Billy Stroud and he had a song they would harmonize together and it was great, got me laughing all the time!!! I know when I here it played, I'll remember those happy times!!
To Liz and Family. I can't express how deeply I feel for your loss. Gary touched lives in the way that most can't. He had an uncanny ability to draw people in and make us realize that regardless of life's spins, you should enjoy the moment. He taught us that we shouldn't take ourselves too seriously and that we should always see the positive in every situation. Gary was a true teacher and demonstrated that with everyone he knew. He had a kindness and treated everyone with dignity and respect, and effected more lives than he probably realized. I'm lucky to have known him and will always cherish the time we spent together. Things will never quite be the same without him.
Sorry for you loss...You have our sympathy! HUGS Kevin & Jonelle Hook
