Gary Gilbert's Obituary
Gary L. Gilbert, 68, of Fulton, died Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center, North Campus, Clinton. Funeral Services will be 2:00pm, Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Jim Jones, John Gibbs, Mike Thomsen, Dudley Humphrey, Richard Jass, and Scott Dodd. Visitation will be from noon until the service time Saturday at the funeral home, followed by a private burial. Gary Lee Gilbert was born on August 23, 1943 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Earl and Virginia Margaret (Schawl) Gilbert. He was a 1961 graduate of Clinton High School. Gary married Linda Humphrey on May 26, 1968 in Garner, Iowa. Gary was a pipefitter with Clinton Corn from 1963 until 1979. He then went to work in construction with Local 387 and later retiring from Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 25 in 2003. Gary was an avid fisherman, and also enjoyed hunting, tennis and bicycling, and was a former member of the Clinton Horseman’s Association. He was also a skilled golfer and member of the Fulton Country Club. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters. Gary is survived by his wife: Linda of Fulton; one daughter: Jody (Eric) Graham of Fulton; one son: Dr. Dan Gilbert of Huntersville, North Carolina; two granddaughters: Carolyn and Cathryn Graham of Fulton; one sister: Joyce (Larry Peterson) Neubauer of Clinton; one brother: David (Jillian) Schawl of DeWitt, Iowa; one sister-in-law: Julie Gilbert of Red Rock, Texas; and one niece: Megan (Chris) Gray of Aurora, Colorado. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister, and one nephew. Memorials can be made to Clinton Relay for Life or the Chemo Lab at Medical Associates.
