Eugene H. “Hank” Vining, 92, of Clinton passed away Saturday, September 27, 2025 at The Alverno - Clinton.

Eugene Henry Vining was born September 11, 1933 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Edwin and Alice (Wells) Vining. He was a graduate of Clinton High School and was an All-State Tackle for both offense and defense. He married Joyce Mills on August 4, 1956; she preceded him in death on February 28, 2013. He earned a Bachelors degree and played football at the University of Dubuque. After graduation he taught school for 37 years; 4 years in DeWitt and then 33 years at Washington Junior High School in Clinton. During his time teaching he coached track and football for many years.
Hank was an avid outdoorsman who was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Delta Waterfowl and Pheasants Forever. He loved hunting and fishing alongside his friends, sons and his many dog companions. Time spent with his family and friends, as well as raising three boys was of the utmost importance to Hank. He was a member of Duck’s Unlimited, Delta Water Fowl and Pheasants Forever.
Hank is survived by his son Kevin Vining of Sioux City, Iowa and daughter-in-law: Mary Beth (Dan) Wagemester of Walford, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sons Scott and Ross Vining and sister Sue Wilson (Jerry).
Memorials may be made to any of the three outdoor clubs he was a member of.
