Dear Kevin,
I’m sorry to hear about your dad’s passing and our whole family sends our condolences. He will be missed. I had a chance to see him at Farm and Fleet a couple of years ago when I was in town and got to introduce my children to him which made me happy. My dad wasn’t well enough to visit in the last year but we talked about him often. I have great childhood memories of him as a close family friend. He called Devon and I “Icky and Acky” throughout our whole childhood—and beyond. He taught me out to 3-step the hurdles after a lot of tough love (and messed up knees) at the WMS gravely track—he, and my dad, and Mr. Taylor were central to creating tough Doughty girls. I hope the 3 of them are able to get some fishing and hunting in again now.

Dear Kevin,

I sure appreciated the time I got to spend with your dad and how he positively impacted my life.
I first met Hank through my father-in-law, Dale Giesler. I had reignited the duck hunting bug in Dale after 21 years of not hunting. Dale then shared hunting trips with you and your father. Before Dale passed, I hunted with the two of them and my friendship with Hank started.
From local corn fields to many Saskatchewan wheat fields, we chased ducks and geese in the fall. When the river was right, we also chased walleyes during the summer.
Over the years, I only remember Hank getting upset with me one time. During one of our last cornfield hunts we had flock after flock of mallards coming in on our spread and I wouldn't shoot until Hank could get a shot. We finally both shot a few ducks but he gave me some feedback about waiting for him to shoot. He asked me if I understood why we were out there and I replied with "yes, do you understand why I'm out here? It's so you can shoot some ducks!" That was one of our last hunts and it still makes me smile!
In recent years we enjoyed each other's hunting stories while sharing roasted ducks for dinner at the Alverno, his favorite meal.
He was a good mentor to many including myself. I sure enjoyed our time afield together hunting, fishing and reminiscing. I feel blessed to have known him and call him my friend.

Kevin and MaryBeth sending you prayers of peace and comfort as my heart is with your hearts in this time of sadness. Hank made great impact on the people that knew him and I count it great privilege to spend time sharing holidays and special occasions with the Vining family. May these memories bring great comfort.

Dear Kevin,
My sympathy to you upon the death of your father. I knew him through teaching at Clinton High with your mother and also because he was a hunting and fishing buddy of Don Doughty, Harry Holesclaw and Bob Taylor. Joyce once told me that your Dad wasn't too helpful when you three boys were born and the first few years. However, once you three got old enough to go with him, Hank was such a good father. Treasure all those hunting and fishing memories. You were blessed to those father-son experiences.

Mr. Vining was a great coach and never held back on what he thought of your performance in sports... if you were bad he would let ya know... if you did a good job he was very happy with ya.... I always tried to do good so he would not get mad at me... he never hesitated to let you know how you were doing... he was brutally honest.... I always wanted to earn his respect in sports but sometimes I would get Mr. Vining mad at me if things didn't work out... he was a great guy that I tried to make him happy and usually did... but if I screwed up... Mr. Vining would let me know right away.... After all the school stuff I would see him having coffee with our other coaches... Mr. Holsclaw and Mr. Huff and Mr. Doty... and we would laugh about it all.... All in all he was a great coach that made me work hard at sports...I have always had lots of respect for him because he brought out the best in me in sports...Mainly cuz I was afraid he would holler at me if I didnt give it 100%....I always liked him but was afraid he get mad at me if I didnt give it my all...my good experiences with Mr. Vining were all around 1964 to 1967....some 60 years ago... RIP Mr Vining... you were a great coach....
