Ed Sukut's Obituary
Ed Sukut, beloved husband, father, papa, brother, and friend, of Clinton, passed away at age 79 on Thursday, December 26, 2024 at MercyOne – Clinton.
Memorial Services will be at 1:00pm, Friday, January 3, 2025 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Visitation will be from 10:00am to the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery.
Edgar Reinhold Sukut was born on May 14, 1945 in Kulm, North Dakota, the son of Raymond and Alva (Eisenbeis) Sukut. He was a 1964 graduate of Clinton High School, graduated in 1966 from Clinton Community College, and from TrumanUniversity in 1969. He served in the United States Army from 1970-1972. He married Julie VenHuizen on June 24, 1983 in Clinton.
Ed was a supervisor at International Paper for 28 years, retiring in 2001. He held a few jobs afterwards, making many friends along the way; Most recently becoming a part of the Wagner Pharmacy family. He enjoyed his time there the most, working with fantastic people, interacting with the community, and always making people laugh and smile with his goofy personality.
Ed loved playing golf, watching sports, especially women’s basketball and softball. He was an avid Hawkeye and Cubs fan. He passed down his passion to play and watch sports to his son, Tyler, and grandson, Beckham. Ed never missed a game and was always their biggest supporter on the sidelines. Ed also enjoyed teaching his granddaughters how to pitch softball and catch properly. Beckham, or "Mr. B." as Papa called him, was his best little buddy. They did everything together from mowing the lawn, playing catch, hitting golf balls, and watching sports. Beckham was the light of his life.
Ed is survived by his wife: Julie of Clinton; children: Tyler (Carrie) Sukut of Clinton, Natasha (Jon) Clausen of Clinton, and Zach (Sara) Dickau of Thomson, Illinois; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; his siblings: Carolyn Aude of DeWitt, Alvin Sukut of Arlington, Virginia, DeRaye (Steve) Hansen of Kirksville, Missouri, Debra Kougias of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, Renee (Floyd) Steines of Clinton, Rhea Herch of Clinton, Russell (Karla) Sukut of Ankeny, Kimberly (Tom) Stuer of Camanche, and DeAnna (John) Dermody of Clive; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a step-father: Leroy Pfiefle, Daughter-in-law: Annie Dickau and three brother-in-laws: Larry Aude, Denny Kougias, and Mark Herch.
