Donald K. Overland's Obituary
Donald Kenneth Overland, age 85, originally of Clinton, Iowa, passed away on October 1, 2024, in Clive, Iowa.
Don was born on November 19, 1938, in Oelwein, Iowa, the son of Floyd and Adeline (Paulus) Overland. He grew up Independence and graduated in 1956 from Independence High School, where he excelled in basketball and baseball. He then went on and attended Parson College where he played basketball and graduated in 1960. He would later receive his Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Iowa. He married Judith Radcliffe on December 28, 1961 in Cincinnati, Ohio; she passed away on May 17, 2020.
Don worked for 38 years in the Clinton Community School District as Principal of Longfellow and Henry Sabin Elementary Schools retiring in 1997.
Don loved playing golf, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes in every sport and traveling with his family. He was actively involved in many community activities and organizations over the years and was a member of the First Congregational Church in Clinton. Most of all, he loved being around his children and grandchildren.
Don is survived by his son, Scott (Jan) Overland of Cedar Rapids, their children Andrea (Adrian) and Abbey: daughter, Diana (Rick) Hanson of Johnston, Iowa, and their children Emily Weber (Samuel), Danielle Walker (Jacob), and Mitchell, and daughter Melissa, (Sam) Mobley of Scottsdale, Arizona and their children, Sam, Kate and Catherine, his 4 great grandchildren, Isadora, Vivian, Madalynn and Brooks, and his brother, Mark Overland. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, a brother: Mike and two sisters: Barbara and Kaaren.
Memorial Services will be 11:00am, Monday, October 7, 2024 at the First Congregational Church – Clinton. Visitation will be from 10:00am to the service time at the church. The Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family.
