Derek P. Welveart's Obituary
Derek P. Welveart, 53, of Camanche, passed away, Saturday, June 17, 2023 at his home in Camanche, following a perfect day on Friday where he went to Chicago with his brother Scott to watch his beloved Cubs win.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 22, 2023 from 4:00-7:00pm at the Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Derek was born on August 10, 1969 in Geneseo, Illinois, the son of Steve “Tick” and Shelby Jean (Klemmer) Welveart. He played all the sports and did theater. He graduated Atkinson High School in 1987.
To go to college, he joined the National Guard as a 92G (cook to you and me); which started his love for feeding others. He went to Southern Illinois University where he had keg parties, a porch couch, and a friend named Groover. His college life was like the movies.
He went to work for the President (Rhythm City) Casino when it still did cruises. He worked with his Dad and brother Scott; and after 25 years he lived everyone’s dream, he walked out and never went back. During those years he met his wife Amber Ohsann, and they later married on October 9, 2010 in Florida. It was one of the many group trips with golfing, fishing, and cooking. Into this marriage he brought two cats he was allergic to and a kind heart. Together they enjoyed day trips to Chicago and Monroe, WI; Lou Malnati’s, concerts, zoos, BBQing and working in the yard.
His love was shown with acts of service to all of us, whether it was painting a room, giving a ride, making ribs for a crowd, or fishing glasses out of the river. He was currently working as a CRP with the Illinois Department of Agriculture and enjoying it, a rare commodity in employment. He was working along with his high school friend, Michael.
Those left to remember and honor his spirit are his wife: Amber of Camanche; his cherished pups: Finley and Twiggs, Charlie the Cat, and the love of his life: Pig; his mother: Shelby Welveart of Atkinson, brothers: Scott (Karen) Welveart of East Moline, Todd (Beth) Welveart of Bettendorf, and Kris (Jackie) Kell of Kewanee. He was the caring and generous uncle to Jake, Amanda, Grace, Dalton, Braden, Wyatt, AJ, and Marik. He was preceded in death by his father: Steve, and mother-in-law: Lorna.
