My best memory goes out to this young man and family I have known forever. Shock hit me while my sons and I were in Canada fishing.
I met Derek a couple times and he was a very caring, fun person, And really appreciated by his mother & family, prayers to all of you..
Derek was a long time close friend. We had so many great times together! I will definitely miss him!
I only knew Derek for a short time and only got to take him to the field a couple of times checking waterways and doing compliance checks. The fact that we both went to SIU Carbondale (the best 8 years of my life!) we had plenty to talk about. I wish there had been more time to get to know him better. I am very sorry for you loss. I have nothing but fond and fun memories of Derek, so many years together in "the business." I'm so happy he found love and that he found his way out of the casino life, so important. Also glad he had one last great time with his brother at a Cubs game. My heart goes out to you Scott, and my deepest condolences to the rest of the family.
