David Lawrence Speakman, 77, of Clinton, IA, passed away Friday, September 29, 2023 at home in the care of loved ones. Private services and visitation will held at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting snellzornig.com.
David was born May 25, 1946 in Leeds, England, the son of Edwin Lawrence and Jean (Taylor) Speakman. He was a 1964 Clinton High School graduate. David served as a medic in the United States Army in Germany from 1964 to 1967. David married Charlene Fish in 1968; he later married Karen Holy in 2006.
David retired as Captain from the Clinton Police Department in 2003 after more than 36 years employment. After retiring he was a patient courier for Mercy One Hospital.
David had been a member of 1st Baptist Church, he enjoyed the river and boating but most of all, he loved riding his motorcycle.
Survivors include his children: Tina M. (Duane) Willhite of Hiawatha, IA and Laura C. (Brent) Vogel of Clinton, IA; his step-children who he helped raise: Chad L. (Rachel) Holy of CO; Danielle D. Holy of IA and Angela (Marcus) Woster of IA; grandchildren: Kelsey, Maria, Carson, Skylar, Oliver, Quinn and Avrey; four great-grandchildren; sister, Susan J. (Steve) Miller if Urbandale, IA and brother, Stephen B. Speakman of North Liberty, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hope Lodge, Iowa City.
