Carl Slapnicka's Obituary
Carl E. Slapnicka, 75, of Camanche, died Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center, North Campus, Clinton. Funeral Services will be 10:30am, Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Clinton AMVETS Post#28. Serving as pallbearers will be Justin Slapnicka, Joseph Slapnicka, Tom “Pete” Howard, Logan Howard, Nolan Howard, and Jacob Peasley. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00-7:00pm at the Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory and from 9:30am to the service time Saturday at the church. Carl Eugene Slapnicka was born on December 14, 1935 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Marion and Minnie (Witt) Slapnicka. He married Joan Lorenzen on February 12, 1961 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clinton. Carl was a 1953 graduate of Clinton High School. He served in the United States Air Force. Carl was employed with DuPont for 38 years until retiring in 1993. Carl was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed bowling, hunting duck, coyote, and pheasants. He was also a long time member of the Izaak Walton Legue and served as it’s hunter safety instructor for 30 years. Carl is survived by his wife: Joan of Camanche; one son: Charles (Barb) Slapnicka of DeWitt, Iowa, and two daughters: Karla (Tom) Howard of Fulton, Illinois, and Kathy (Jeff) Peasley of Camanche, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, his sister: Marilyn Pelisek of Clinton, Iowa; and many cousins. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, and one infant sister. Memorials can be made to the Clinton County Chapter of the Izaak Walton League.
