Carl Alm's Obituary
Carl W. “Pork” Alm, 71, of Clinton died Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at the University Of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Funeral services will be 10:30am Monday, November 2, 2009 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00pm Sunday, November 1, 2009 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rick Trine, Randy Trine, Mark Trine, Cary Alm, Greg Alm, and Jeff Hansen. Carl W. Alm was born on October 12, 1938 in Clinton, the son of Carl A. and Doretta B. (Miller) Alm. In 1951 he went with his grandfather to Sweden. He was a United States Navy Veteran and was a cook on the USS Alstede from 1958 – 1962. He married Sharon Trine on October 18, 1974 in Clinton, IA. He was employed by GE in Morrison, IL for 32 years until his retirement in 1997 in the quality control department. Prior to GE, he was employed by International Paper and he was a bartender at Bush’s Café, Reynold’s Restaurant, and other establishments. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and enjoyed fishing, duck, deer, and pheasant hunting. He was a Hawkeye, Steelers, White Sox and Celtics fan. He enjoyed reading and watching western films, especially John Wayne. He liked his Old Fashion’s and Miller Lite. Everyday he and his brother Allan would spend time riding in the truck checking out hunting spots, going to the C-store in Goose Lake and having fun harassing the farmers. Every Wednesday morning they would head to the Hill Top for breakfast to harass their friends from Miles, Bellevue and Grand Island. He is survived by his wife Sharon of Clinton, 4 children: Brian (Tina) Thomas of Eldridge, IA, Brent (Kate) Thomas of Wake Forest, NC, Brenda (Randy) Vens of Clinton, and Barb (Ken) Woods of Lisbon, IA; 2 brothers: Darrell (Linda) Alm of Lake Havasu City, AZ, and Allan (Kathy) Alm of Camanche, IA; one sister, Dee Ann Dittmar of Lanark, IL; 11 grandchildren: Jessica, Katie, Zachary, Tony, Shannon, Stephanie, Megan, Ryan, Kyle, Nathan and Renae, and 6 great grandchildren: McKenzie, Katie, Jake, Sam, Trey and Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, 3 uncles, 1 aunt, and 2 nephews. Memorials may be made to the American Kidney Foundation or to Ducks Unlimited.
