Wayne Nier's Obituary
Wayne R. Nier, 87, of Clinton, died Saturday, October 25, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center, North Campus. Clinton.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be 11:00am, Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at Prince of Peace Parish, Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00am to the service time Tuesday at the church. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Wayne R. Nier was born on May 1, 1921 in Clinton County, Iowa, the son of Emil and Elsie (Schroder) Nier. He married Mary Blessington on November 15, 1947 at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Clinton. Wayne was a 1939 graduate of Clinton High School. He was veteran of World War II serving in the Air Force from 1941 until discharged in 1945 as a Staff Sergeant.
Wayne was employed in the maintenance department of the Curtis Company for 21 years and Hawkeye Chemical for 20 years until retiring in 1983. Wayne was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, the Clinton Moose Lodge, the Eagles Club, Clinton AMVETS Post#28, enjoyed bowling, fishing, and watching Westerns especially John Wayne.
Wayne is survived by his wife: Mary of Clinton; two sons: Timothy (Deborah) Nier of Wayland, Michigan, and Thomas Nier of Clinton, Iowa; one daughter: Teresa (Jamie) Walker of Harvard, Illinois; five grandchildren: Dustin (Heather) Freyer, Brittny Freyer, Andrew Nier, Aaron Nier, and Shane Nier; one great-grandson: Ryne Freyer; two brothers: Bill (Jewell) Nier of San Antionio, Texas, and Roland (Clarite) Nier of San Antonio, Texas, and one sisterL Donna (Howard) Knutsen of Pella, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, and one daughter in infancy.
The family requests that memorials be made to Mercy Home Care/Hospice.
