Wayne Gregory's Obituary
Wayne T. Gregory, 75, of Camanche, former owner of Reliable Service, Inc. passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at his home after a short courageous battle with brain cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Services will be 10:00 am, Saturday, November 6, 2010 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery with military honors being conducted by Clinton AMVETS Post #28. A luncheon will follow at the Evangelical Free Church in Clinton. Serving as pallbearers will be Todd Card, Eddie Doyle, Jack Bullard, Matthew Kinkaid, Wayne Lueders, and Stan Wilden. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 – 8:00 pm and from 9:00 am until the service hour on Saturday at the funeral home. Wayne Thomas Gregory was born on December 20, 1934 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Jesse and Helen (Kunz) Gregory in Clinton, Iowa. He was a 1952 graduate of Clinton High School. Wayne repaired appliances in the Clinton area for over 50 years. He owned and operated Reliable Service, Inc. for 40 years until his retirement in 2004. Wayne married Jane E. Bullard on May 4, 1957. He later married Marcia Hamilton Volrath on June 1, 1985. Wayne will be remembered for his honesty, generosity, integrity and hard work. He was always ready to help someone in need and he could fix or build anything. He enjoyed many fun times at his cabin at Storm Haven on the Mississippi River. He loved to garden, camping, and always had a project. His grandchildren were very important to him. After retirement he lived for his winters in Yuma, Arizona and the many friends he made there. He was a member of the VFW, the Clinton Moose Lodge, First Baptist Church in Camanche, Sundance RV Club in Yuma, Arizona. He served in the United States Army from 1957-1959. Wayne is survived by two daughters: Winnie (Randy) Hofsommer of Solon, Iowa, Mari (James) Mathiesen of Clinton, Iowa; six grandchildren: Greg and Nick Hofsommer, Emily (Kendall) Dykstra, Matthew (Jessica) Kinkaid, Aimee (John) Hannan, and Robert (Erica) Mathiesen; three great grandchildren; three sisters: Joy (Marion) Tilton of Hoodsport, Washington, Carol (John) Langrehr of Davenport, Iowa, Elaine (Glenn) Trout of Bettendorf, Iowa; one brother: Jay (DeReva) Gregory of Killeen, Alabama; and many nieces and nephews.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, and one infant brother. The family wants to express a very special thank you to all of his camping friends and all of his neighbors especially Eddie Doyle who was a great friend who always looked out for Wayne towards the end. We also want to thank the staff at Mercy Home Care and Hospice, the staff at Mercy Radiation and Oncology Center and his physician Dr. Oduah Osaro who he considered a close friend.
A memorial fund has been established in Wayne’s memory.
