Wayne C. Dorathy's Obituary
Wayne was born on February 21, 1928 at a place unknown. He graduated from Lyons High school in 1947. While in the United States Army he spent several years at the EI DuPont Company. However during this time he was starting to pursue his military career serving nine years active Army, 18 years with the Iowa National Guard and 5 years with the United States Army Reserve.
Wayne served in the Korean Conflict as a Sergeant; after which he graduated from the Fort Sill, Oklahoma Field Artillery Officer Candidate School as a 2nd Lt. He graduated from other Army office schools to include Airborne Training as a paratrooper, Field Artillery Officer Career Course, Command and General Staff College, National Security Academy, Counter Insurgency School, Senior Commanders Preventive Maintenance School, Field Grade Officers Artillery refresher course, and leadership command courses. He retired from the Army of the United States in 1979 as Lt.Col. Lt.Col. Dorathy received 11 letters of commendations from different Generals during his military career.
Wayne towards the end of his military career began working for Department of Defense in procurement as a contract specialist at the Army Material Command Rock Island Arsenal, Rock Island, Illinois.
His hobbies were golf, travel, and bicycling, and of course his “motto” “No fanfare, hoopla, or fantasizing, be yourself with integrity, engrained in your reputation.”
Wayne married a wonderful companion Mitzi J. Gladhill on January 27, 1951 with a devoted marriage of 64 years.
Wayne, as a military veteran was honored to be on the 16th Honor Flight to Washington DC to visit the war memorials in 2011. He had life memberships with the American Legion and Military Officers Association of America.
Funeral Services will be 11:00am, Monday, July 13, 2015 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Clinton AMVETS. Visitation will be from 9:00am to the service time at the funeral home.
