Wanda L. Petersen was born on September 5, 1935 in Teeds Grove, Iowa, the daughter of Lloyd and Eleanor (Petersen) Petersen. She was a 1953 graduate of Lyons High School. She married John Eugene ‘Jack’ Wilden on June 30, 1956 in Clinton. He passed away March 4, 1984. She married Larry Detterman on August 25, 1989 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Wanda was a savings counselor at Clinton Federal Savings & Loan for 31 years; retiring in 1998.
Wanda was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. For 33 years, she and Larry enjoyed wintering in Florida. Here at home, she and her sister Kay enjoyed time together at the casino. She cherished her time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Wanda was dearly loved and appreciated by many people. She was known for her quick wit, offering many hilarious one-liners. Her work ethic and commitment to her family carried her through the more challenging times of her life, and she was on top of what was going on around her at all times. In short, she missed nothing. Most importantly, she knew how to express her love and care for others, and never failed to make someone new to a group feel welcome and included. She will be missed for all of these qualities and so much more.
Wanda is survived by her husband, Larry ‘Joe’ Detterman of Clinton; her son, Mark (Kathleen) Wilden of Marion, Iowa; her daughter, Mary (Bob) Black of Clinton, Iowa; grandson, Matthew (Janda) Wilden of Vinton, Iowa, and great-grandchildren, Brynn, Luke and Reid; grandson Jeffrey (Megan) Wilden of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and great-grandchildren, Kage, Kinnick, and Klover; granddaughter Rebecca (Jon) Lucas of Frisco, Texas, and great-grandchildren, Will and Lauren; stepsons Jeff (Tina) Detterman of Cedar Rapids, and grandchildren Ashley (Travis) Rathmell of Cedar Rapids, Zachary Detterman of Des Moines; Jay Detterman of Clinton and grandchildren Karly, Luke, and Logan Detterman; and special nephew, Randy (Patricia) Fuller of Clinton, and sons, Byron (Katie), Keaton, and Gannon Fuller. In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Kay, and her brother, Stanley.
Memorials can be made to Prince of Peace Catholic Church or Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
