Walter Rickertsen's Obituary
Walter V. Rickertsen, 91, of Clinton, IA, died Monday, June 8, 2009 at the Bright Kavanagh Hospice House in Des Moines, IA. Services will be held at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Burial will be at Springdale Cemetery, in Clinton, IA. Walter was born February 17, 1918, in Clinton County, IA, the son of Herman and Christina (Mohr) Rickertsen. He married Esther Sorensen on February 6, 1944 at Elvira Zion Lutheran Church, Elvira, Iowa; she died April 20, 2002. Walter farmed in Clinton County for many years and after retiring he and Esther owned and operated Rickertsen Estate Sales. He was a member of Elvira Zion Lutheran Church and he enjoyed his travels to Colorado and Oregon and especially enjoyed his grandkids and great-grandkids. Survivors include his daughters, Jeanie Friedman of Volcan, Panama and Janice (Bill) Cook of Des Moines, IA; 3 grandchildren, Ronda, Corey (Erica) and Jessi; 3 great-grandchildren, Luke, Elizabeth and Skylar; sisters, Lucille Schoolman of Goose Lake, Dorothy Grim of Washington, IA and Arlene (Ray) Eickstaedt of Bettendorf. In addition to his wife, Walter was preceded in death by his parents, 9 brothers and a sister. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity in Walters’s memory.
