Volker Heinrich Nass' Obituary
Volker H. Nass died peacefully at home surrounded by family members. Volker was born Sept. 15, 1948 in Hamm, Germany. He was a member of the German Air Force (Luftwaffe) where he met his wife Carol Nass (Matje) in 1972 while training in the US at Keesler Air Force Base, MS. They moved to Germany following his training. After retiring from the German Air Force as a Weapon System’s Officer (WSO) in the RF-4 Phantom jet they moved to Clinton in 1995. To continue his passion for flying he was instrumental in starting the Clinton Aeroclub and served on the Clinton Airport Commission. In 1997 they purchased a property near Sabula, IA to build and operate Hillside Stables and Restaurant until 2012. After retiring from Hillside Stables, he enjoyed travelling, watching NASCAR, Formula 1 and German Soccer. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Carol, his sister Monika, sons Michael (Marlana) Nass of Clinton, Steffen (Teresa) Nass of Reno, NV and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. There will be no services, Snell-Zornig assisted the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting snellzornig.com.
