Viola Nicolaysen's Obituary
Viola D. Nicolaysen, 100, of Clinton, died Friday, November 6, 2009 at the Alverno Nursing Home, Clinton. Funeral Services will be 10:30am, Thursday, November 12, 2009 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Holmer officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00pm Wednesday at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. Viola Dora Rathje was born on November 28, 1908 in Sabula, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Anna (Paasch) Rathje. She married Robert Nicolaysen on May 10, 1933 in Davenport, Iowa; he died October 14, 1962. Viola was a 1927 graduate of Lyons High School. She was a homemaker and also worked at Nielsen’s and for the Clinton County Treasurer. Viola was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Clinton. She also enjoyed crocheting and playing cards. Viola is survived by two sons: Donald Nicolaysen of Clinton and Robert (Carolyn) Nicolaysen of Richardson, Texas, 4 grandchildren: Scott Nicolaysen of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Kari Lystiuk of Davenport, Iowa, Dan Nicolaysen of Innis, Texas, and Karen Reed of Plano, Texas, and 10 great-grandchildren. Viola was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, three brothers, and a daughter-in-law. Memorials can be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Alverno Nursing Home.
