Viola Flory's Obituary
Viola Mae Flory, 92, of Clinton, Iowa, died Sunday, February 20, 2011 at the home of her daughter, Judith Wivell Portz, Clinton. Visitation will be 4 PM to 8 PM Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. Services will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, February 24, 2011 at the Evangelical Free Church, Clinton. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be, Dan Nelson, Mike Harmon, Steve Jeffrey, Dick Witt, Roger Rieke and Jon Burggraaf.
Viola was born August 15, 1918 in Oxford Mills, Iowa the daughter of George and Beulah (Chapman) Leslie. She was a 1935 graduate of Oxford Mills High School and 1938 graduate of Lennox College, Hopkinton, Iowa. Viola married Eugene Flory December 23, 1944 in Oxford Junction, Iowa; he died May 29, 1995. Viola had been employed as a teacher in a one room school house in her early years. She had also been employed at J & P Shoes, Klines, Turner Electric was a cashier at the Clinton High School cafeteria. She was a member of the Evangelical Free Church and the M & Mâ??s Church group. She was also a member of the Clinton Gideon Association Auxiliary and was an avid word search puzzler. Viola is survived by her daughter, Judith (Cletus) Wivell Portz of Clinton; son, Kenneth A. (Norma) Flory of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; brother, George (Eleanor) Leslie, Jr. of Clinton; sisters, Mildred Clapp of Clinton, Marjorie (Charles) Brotherton of Canonsburg, PA and Gertrude (Wayne) Zaruba of Maquoketa; granddaughter, Margaret (David) Keefer of Clinton and great-grandchildren, Kallyn, Emersyn and Griffen. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, and three brothers. Memorials may be made to the Evangelical Free Church.
