Vernon J. Truemper's Obituary
Vernon J. Truemper, 100, of Camanche passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at the Alverno - Clinton.
Funeral Mass will be 11:00 am, Thursday, September 21, 2023 at the Catholic Church of the Visitation in Camanche. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery in Clinton with military honors being conducted by the United States Air Force. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until the service time Thursday at the church. Vernon Jacob Truemper was born on December 6, 1922 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of William and Medline (Cagna) Truemper. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State College. He married Deloris Kephart in Helena, Arkansas on August 18, 1947; she preceded him in death in 2005. He honorably served in the United States Air Force during WWII. He served in active duty from 1944 until 1946; and then retired as a Captain from the Air Force Reserves. He received 5 oak leaf cluster Air Medal. He served in the Central Europe Campaign and the Rhine Crossing Campaign.
Vernon was a member of the Church of the Visitation in Camanche of which he help build, charter member of the American Institute of Engineering. He was a member of Clinton Engineering Club and the American Legion. He was the president of the Camanche School Board from 1966-1971 and a volunteer for RSVP for many years. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, a kind, intelligent, and gentle man. His legacy is one of service and discipline, love for his family and God, and the ability to solve any problem presented to him. He was an electronic bug and an avid duck hunter. A hardworking family man who loved spending time with his family.
Vernon is survived by his three sons: Gerald (Christie) Truemper of Solon, Iowa, Steven (Weiwei) Truemper of Eureka, Missouri and Craig (Lori) Truemper of Tomahawk, Wisconsin; 11 grandchildren: Chad, Jeremy, Forrest, Jacob, Angela, Christopher, Michael, Tiffany, Chelsea, Kimberly, and Patrick; and seventeen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two brothers John Patrick and William Truemper.
