Vernon Cady's Obituary
Vernon R. Cady, 91, of Clinton, died Monday, November 22, 2010 at Mercy Living Center – North, Clinton. Private Family Services will be Wednesday, November 24, 2010, at the Cottonwood Cemetery, rural Fulton, Illinois. Military honors will be conducted by the Fulton American Legion and the Clinton AMVETS Post #28. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Vernon Reign Cady was born on May 8, 1919 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Henry and Grace (Hopkins) Cady. He was raised by his step-mother: Viola Robinson Cady. He married Nada Cooper on December 25, 1940 in Clinton, Iowa, she died April 30, 2000.
Vernon served in the Air Force during World War II from 1943-1946. He was employed as a turbine operator in the boiler house at Clinton Corn for 37 years retiring in 1977. Vernon was a life member and past commander of the Fulton American Legion, a life member of the Savanna Moose Club, a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he served on the church council, and a member and past-president of the American Federation of Grain Millers. Vernon is survived by his daughter: Deanna Holm of Clinton; five granddaughters: Tammy (Mark) Larson of Clinton, Tracy (Greg) Comstock of Clinton, Tina (Dave Gluesing) Rehr of Elvira, Teresa (Steve Norem) Holm of Fulton, and Tonya Holm of Clinton; seven great-grandchildren: Amy Holm, Ryan Rehr, Andrew Comstock, Brandon Dierks, Brad Dierks, Courtney Lehmkuhl, and Chloe Holm; and one great-great granddaughter: Alyssa VanKampen. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 5 sisters, and 6 brothers. Memorials can be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Mercy Hospice, or Mercy Living Center, North.
