Verne Ray King, Jr., 99, of Clinton passed away Sunday, August 8, 2021 at the Alverno, Clinton, IA. There will be no services or visitation; cremation will take place at the Clinton Chapel Snell Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting snellzornig.com.
Verne was born March 6, 1922 on Beaver Island, Clinton, Iowa, the son of Verne R. and Lillian M. (Berry) King, Sr. He was educated in the Clinton Schools. Verne was a United States Army WWII veteran.
He married Varena Smith in 1946; he later married Barbara Brown May 3, 1969 in Clinton, she died in 2001.
Verne had been employed at Clinton Corn Processing for more than 35 years, retiring in 1980.
He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and the AMVETS.
He is survived by his children, Varena King of Clinton, IA and Thomas (Debra) King of Camanche, IA; five grandsons, Peter Lassen, Tyson Lassen, Andrew Lassen, Thomas King, Jr. and Randy King; several great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren and step-daughter, Carla Curtis of Clinton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and step-son, Bob Brown.
Memorials may be made to the VFW, American Legion or AMVETS.
