Velda Youngblood's Obituary
Velda I. Youngblood, 88, of Clinton died Sunday, June 21, 2009 at Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Visitation will be from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Friday, June 26, 2009 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. Funeral services will be 10:30am Saturday, June 27, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church in Clinton with a visitation held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at 1:45pm on Saturday in Davenport Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her six grandchildren: Scott P. Shearrow, Dawn Soenksen Pool, Sara Shearrow Clark, Christopher P. Soenksen, Nathaniel J. Abbott, and Megan Abbott Bailey. Velda Ida Youngblood was born on October 20, 1920 in Davenport, IA, the daughter of Fred and Julia (Jens) Wulf. She was a 1938 graduate of Davenport High School. She married William K. Youngblood on May 24, 1941 in Davenport; he died on September 2, 1990. Velda and William moved to Clinton, IA in 1949, where they made their home. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Clinton. She had been previously employed with Rose’s Gift Shop in Clinton for 10 years. She is survived by three daughters: Beverly (Richard) Soenksen of Livingston, TX, Carol (William) Shearrow of Machesney Park, IL, and Patricia (Richard) Abbott of Richmond, VA; 6 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 8 step great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 5 sisters, and 2 brothers. Memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or to the American Diabetes Association.
