Valija P. Tubbs' Obituary
Valija P. Tubbs, 88, of Clinton passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at the Alverno – Clinton.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 am, Saturday, August 24, 2019 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Maquoketa. Serving as pallbearers will be Todd Tubbs, Brandon Tubbs, Taylor Tubbs, Stephanie Tubbs, Rachel Williams Benjamin Tubbs and Joseph Tubbs. Valija P. Kikuts was born June 11, 1931 in Jekabpils, Latvia, the daughter of Stanislavs and Vilhelmina (Ritt) Kikuts. She and her family fled Latvia in 1944 and kept heading west until they reached Germany. They lived in a refugee camp for 5 years in Germany. They arrived in America in 1950 and were sponsored by the Lutheran Church in Lost Nation, Iowa. She became a U.S. Citizen in 1955.
Valija married James Tubbs on February 20, 1953; he preceded her in death in January 1966. She took classes and was part of the Maquoketa High School graduating class of 1969. She worked for the Collis Company for nearly 19 years. She was a past member of the Clinton Church of Christ. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Valija is survived by her four sons: Robert (Sherry) Tubbs of Clinton, Gary Tubbs of Clinton, Rich (Betsy) Tubbs of Davenport and David Tubbs of Clinton; eight grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; three siblings: Herta (George) Hansen of Wyoming, Iowa, Romans Kikuts of Austin, Minnesota and Vilis (Karen) Kikuts of Clinton.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Memorial may be made to the Alverno or Genesis Hospice.
