Thomas Bigwood's Obituary
Thomas “Tom” A. Bigwood, 53, of Clinton, died Saturday, March 20, 2010, peacefully at home after a 18 month battle with colon/rectum cancer. A Memorial Visitation will be Wednesday, March 24, 2010 from 3:00-5:00pm at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory. A prayer will conclude the visitation at 5:00pm. A celebration of life gathering will follow at 6:00pm at the Imperial Lanes in Camanche. Tom was born on March 6, 1957 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Robert F. and Helen J. (Andrew) Bigwood. He graduated from Clinton High School. Tom was employed by Champion Package, Promotional Fulfillment Corp., and most recently the Swiss Colony in DeWitt. He had been there for over 12 years. It was his “work family.” Over his illness they have shown him much kindness and love. His other extended family was his “baseball buddies.” Tom loved all sports but his favorite was baseball. He was a ticket-box season owner for over 33 years. He loved watching the “Lumberkings” play ball. It was what he had hoped for this year. His famous saying through his entire illness was “cancer was not going to beat him.” His courage made everyone strong for him. Tom is survived by his mother: Helen Bigwood of Clinton; two brothers: Bob (Sue) Bigwood of Clinton, and Michael (Vera) Bigwood of Ohio; one sister: Barb Bigwood of Clinton; nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great nieces, his four legged companion Maggie, and very special friend and caregiver: Sue Bigwood. Tom was preceded in death by his father. The family requests that memorials be made to the Friends of Riverview Stadium.
